Meryl Streep got it right, “The great gift of human beings is that we have the power of empathy, we can all sense a mysterious connection to each other."
This is Founder Friday: A Forum for Founders, Leaders & The Human Connection
The holidays are here again and it seems our lives are getting more crowded by the minute. Many of us feel disconnected - we barely have time to speak let alone enjoy time together.
We're all "connected" to each other these days but we're not standing anywhere near each other. We look at screens not eyes, in the office and out. So I've been conducting my own Human Connection experiment...
I start conversations when I'm in line at stores. I take time to listen when I visit my mom and her friend engages me in conversation. I stop my car for a few minutes to catch up when my neighbor walking his dog waves. I'm listening, we're face-to-face, we're relating. That's all it takes to make a Human Connection. I actually feel those few minutes slowing me down and I'm off the hamster wheel, just like that. I am instantly aware of my physical change and that's miraculous and incredibly freeing!
Try an experiment and let me know how it goes!
"The connections we make in the course of a life - maybe that's what Heaven is." Fred Rogers
